There are plenty of reasons why you may want to know which motherboard you have on your Windows 10 computer. Luckily, it is not too tricky to find this information out. You won’t have to open up your computer at all. It can all be done from within Windows itself.
You have two options available to find out what motherboard you have through Windows 10. The quickest method is to hit the Windows key + R button and tap in msinfo32. From here, you will be able to see the make and model of your motherboard. You will also be able to see which version of the motherboard you have.
Let’s go into a little bit more depth on this. This is because there are two different methods that you can use.
View motherboard brand and model through ‘system information’
The easiest method is to do the following:
- Press the Windows key + R button
- Type ‘msinfo32’
- Press enter
You will now see the information for your system. This should list all the hardware that you have connected up. Scroll down the list until you see ‘baseboard manufacturer’. The 3 sections listed here will tell you the brand of the motherboard, the model number, and the version number.
If you do not have a Windows key on your keyboard, then you can type ‘system information’ in the windows search bar. Open up the program that appears, and this will tell open the same page that was opened with the previous method.
Download third-party software
In most cases, you won’t need to do this. However, there are pieces of software that you can download to view your motherboard information.
CPU-Z is one of the most common pieces of software here.
The only times you will need to download third-party software is if you want to see more information about your motherboard than Windows gives you e.g. you want to see the unique serial number for your motherboard, or the chipset that it is using.
Third-party software will also allow you to see whether your BIOS is up to date.
